A new project at the Research Centre for Provenance Research, Art and Cultural Property Law at the University of Bonn sets out to mark 30th anniversary of the Washington Principles. Thirty years after the Washington Conference on Holocaust-Era Assets (30th November to 3rd December 1998) it is time to take stock: what developments have taken place in the 42 signatory states since the adoption of the Principles? To what extent and how have the Principles been implemented internationally? And where do we stand today, three decades later?

The Research Centre is planning an Open Access publication in English, with individual contributions documenting the current status of implementation in the various signatory states. We are seeking international authors from the field of provenance research, art and cultural property law, and adjacent fields of research for this project. The publication is scheduled to appear in December 2028.

A call for submissions will be published in the summer of 2026.
