Dr. Raika Khorshidian
Philipp Schwartz Bridge Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Bonn.
Research profile
Raika Khorshidian is a Philipp Schwartz Bridge Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Bonn working on “Collective Traumas and Future Fantasies: AI, Art, and Social Media for Imagining New Narratives for Iran”. She is currently co-editing a volume on Collective Traumas and Future Fantasies: The Power of Art for Socio-Political Transition in Iran (forthcoming 2026 with Leuven University Press). The book aims to, 1. to provide a nuanced understanding of the impact of grassroots and non-conformist artistic activities in Iran and the diaspora on liberation and women’s empowerment by acknowledging the role of social media. 2. to examine collective traumas and memories in art, visual culture, and performance, and their role in fostering collective courage and hope; 3. to extensively investigate imaginative future scenarios/fantasies and the transformative power of artistic creativity. Besides, she engaged in an interdisciplinary collaborative project, along with Dr. Shirin Naef (University of Fribourg), entitled “‘Woman, Life, Liberty [Freedom]’: Scholars’ Narratives, Academic and Art Activism against the Iranian State’s Propaganda and Repression”, granted by the 2024-25 Mellon/SAR Academic Freedom Workshop & Fellowships (December 2024-September 2025).The project, on one hand, aims to examine the impact of the politics of the Islamic Republic of Iran on knowledge production and academic freedom in the Arts and Humanities in Iran; on the other hand, to analyse the scholarly reactions and (art) activisms to the state’s restrictions. As is an independent curator, she is the co-founder of the exhibition and archiving project “Kannst du mich hören?” (2023-). She collaborated with the Folkwang Museum in Essen in the position of guest co-curator, contributing to the production of documentaries at the exhibition “DEFFARGE & TROELLER. Stern-Reportagen und Filme. Keine Bilder zum Träumen” (15 November 2024-23 February 2025). “Kannst du mich hören?” is an ongoing interdisciplinary curatorial project that aims to archive narratives of artists and scholars as subtle yet profound agents of social change and to amplify silenced voices muted by political oppression and cultural misunderstandings.
